UNDT is transitioning to the LMD system in 2006/2007. With this in mind, the « First Cycle » degree listed hereunder will no longer exist.
First Cycle :
Diplôme d’études universitaires Générales (DEUG)
Diplôme universitaire d’études scientifiques (DUES)
These degrees represent two years of intense studies beyond the high school « baccalauréat ». They are roughly equivalent to an american Associates Degree.
LMD Cycle:
Licence
Licence Professionnelle (LPST)
These degrees represent three to four years of intense studies beyond the high school « baccalauréat ». In the LMD system, four years are required. A « licence » is then equivalent to an american Bachelor’s Degree.
Maitrise
Maitrise Professionnelle (MPST)
Ingénieur des travaux
These degrees represent four to five years of intense studies beyond the high school « baccalauréat ». In the LMD system, five years are required. A « licence » is then equivalent to an american Maitrise’s Degree.
Doctorat
A doctorate is awarded to post-graduate student who have completed the equivalent of three full time years of research beyond the master’s level. This research leads to the presentation and defense of a doctoral thesis in front of a committee of 2-4 professors.
Note: UNDT includes a medical school and is authorized to bestow the title of doctor in medicine.
